- Notes:
- This is one of the first and most widely-distributed maps of the area of San Francisco burned in the 1906 earthquake, published just two weeks after the event. It is useful to compare this straightforward map with ID #1157, Lee, "San Francisco Burned District," which is virtually identical apart from an overlay half-toned in red of the dramatic fire. The comparison illustrates how the use of color and graphics can dramatically change the impact of a map.
