- Description:
- A collection of maps detailing Cornell property and programs spanning Tompkins County, New York State, and beyond in the year 2002. Two maps cover the top half of the document. On the left, a map of Tompkins County shows research and teaching facilities outside the main campus, shaded on the map in red. Main roads in the area are colored yellow and crisscross a basemap shaded to illustrate terrain. Labels are connected to each facility with a thin black line and encircle the edges of the map. On the right, university research and teaching facilities are mapped across New York State. These locations are noted by black squares and connected to labels outside the map with black lines. A red outline shows the location of Tompkins County. Major cities throughout the state are labelled and marked with red dots, while the state capital of Albany is marked with a red star. The basemap of New York State is shaded green and has highways illustrated as red lines and other major roads similarly represented in yellow. Large lakes throughout the state and on its borders are shaded light blue. The bottom half of the document contains a map of the world, simply depicted with the outline of the continents surrounded by light blue ocean, and three callout maps. The first, on the far left, contains a map of Shoals Marine Laboratory. Text at the top provides the address of the laboratory and a paragraph describing the program. The map accompanying the text shows the location of the laboratory, Appledore Island, as a black dot off the coast of the outlined states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. A small aerial picture of the island, with rocky shores and green-filled interior, accompanies the map. The central callout contains a map of Puerto Rico and the Arecibo Observatory. A map of the island of Puerto Rico, shaded green with yellow and red highways, marks the location of the observatory with a red dot. Text below the map provides information on the observatory program and location. A picture of the observatory, a large circular dish with towers and wires, surrounded by dense vegetation, is located to the right. The third callout contains a map of the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. Text on the left side of the callout provides information on the start of classes in the program. Below the text, an image of Doha, Qatar shows high rise buildings surrounded by green parkland and brown sand. On the right, a map locates Doha in the Persian Gulf, Qatar shaded a light pink next to the tan shading of the surrounding countries of Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Oman, and Iran. Additional resources for learning about Cornell programs and labs are listed in the top right corner of the document.
