Americanization - Description:
- In Yiddish. 532 pages. Saltzman's paper is 60 pages long and touches on many issues. Translated Summary: An in-depth discussion of Zionism and the Yishuv (settlement) in Israel calls for open immigration rights, an end to the British mandate and UN stewardship so the Jews and Arabs can develop together. Favors single-state solution, in line with Soviet policy, and cites Gromyko's UN speech of May, 1947 to that effect. Discusses the world situation, and US postwar politics. Describes the Ordn's activities in English, including English branches of the organization, to integrate those who were born in America. Praises the work of the Emma Lazarus Division, of the schools, etc.. Table of Contents is on page 532. Material encompasses a wide range of political, historical and cultural topics, including: American Jews in World War II, the role of women in American society, the Declaration of Independence and Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Yiddish, an introduction to early Yiddish literature, articles on the Ordn, on Birodbizhan, on contemporary Yiddish literature in the Soviet Union, and much else. The I.W.O name is not displayed on the cover, neither is the word "Fraternal."

- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
