- Measurement:
- 52 x 67 (centimeters, height x width)
- Notes:
- A good example of the use of pictorial and text elements to reinforce an underlying message. The mapmaker uses relatively large images of the lost ships (instead of smaller dots or x's) and lists the sunken ships in a large font, positioned on the map itself rather than in a separate legend box. As a result, virtually all of the otherwise empty land and sea have been filled, increasing the apparent danger of "maritime disaster" in the area.
Map was first published in 1971; this copy is the 2008 edition.
