- Notes:
- An advertisement urging continued purchase of war bonds immediately following victory over Germany. Adolf Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945, and on May 7, the German military signed the formal surrender papers. This advertisement was published the following day, May 8, 1945 - the date set aside for celebration around the world of victory in Europe, "VE Day."
The map shows Berlin in the background, with smoke still rising from the fires. Japan is in the foreground, bristling with guns as U.S. planes and ships approach it. "Little celebration or something like that? Forget it, friend. . . . Tokyo's our destination. Half a world a billions of bucks away. . . . That means you keep on buying more and more bonds until you've bought every bond you can dig up the dough for. And then you buy another one."
