- Open letter from Albert E. Kahn and R. Saltzman to Henry Monsky to the Interim Committee regarding the formulation of a statement of the purpose and scope for the American Jewish Conference or its successor organization. Calls for the current draft document to be strengthened by adding language on economic discrimination, national and state legislation on anti-Semitism and racial discrimination, and the abolishment of educational and institutional quotas. Also asks for language to be added on relief work in Europe and on the Yishuv in Palestine (requests that a UN trusteeship be set up under the "Big Three").
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
