Political - Description:
- Letter from Rabbi Stephen S. Wise and Harold O. N. Frankel (Chairman Convention Committee) regarding the biennial Convention of the American Jewish Congress and urging the appointment by the JPFO of 5 delegates and 5 alternates. Convention speakers include Judge Louis Levinthal, Rabbi Phillip Bernstein, Professor Harold Laski, General Joseph T. McNarney, Judge Simon Rifkind. On the left in Yiddish is a pencilied in list of JPFO officer names that are being proposed in that regard. See response back to Frankel on March 9, 1948 from George Starr with the list of delegates.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
