This photograph shows a cross-section of the remnants of a large outdoor firepit (Feature 5) at the Townley-Read site. The photograph was taken after the east half of the feature had been excavated. The image shows several layers of different-colored soil, which represent different stages in the use-life of the firepit. A whitish circle of ash is visible to the right of the picture.
