This is a first draft of the essay written by George Sommaripa and Randall Forsberg in August 1980. The essay explains in detail the goal of a national effort to halt the nuclear arms race and a political process needed to take place in the USA and USSR for a mutual nuclear weapons freeze. The essay presents also the background developments of the Freeze efforts in 1979-1980 and discusses future strategy for 1980-1981 and 1981-83. The essay contains one section on near-term cooperation among supporting groups and appendices with an inventory of Peace and Other Potentially Supporting Groups and a chart with Projected Supporters of the Freeze.
