- "Samana 1871." Inscribed in mantel of the fireplace in the southeast salon of the Andrew D. White mansion. The wood that surrounds the fireplace is mahogany from Santo Domingo where Dr. White went in 1871 as a member of a commission endeavoring to settle a boundary dispute between Santo Domingo and Haiti.
