- "His life was like a beautiful discourse which uplifted souls of men, his death like a quiet benediction at its close." Clarence A. Martin. "This memorial is respectfully dedicated to the centennial of the College of Architecture 1871-1971. The first professor, dean, and director of the College, the Reverand Charles Babcock M.A. (Union College) F.A.I.A. and (Hon.) F.R.I.B.A., designed the Sage Chapel, Sage College, the first president's house, Franklin, and Lincoln Halls. This devout gentleman-scholar was a founder of the American Institute of Architects. 9th June 1972." Portrait head, bronze, north entry of Sage Chapel. Artist V.E. Colby. Franklin has now been renamed Olive Tjaden Hall in honor of Mrs. Olive Tjaden VanSickle, B.Arch. Cornell 1925. Clarence A. Martin (above) (1862-1944) Cornell Sp. 1886-1888.
