- As the war went into its fourth year with no allied invasion of Europe, there was a concerted effort to reassure not only the citizens of Britain, but those under Nazi rule. This poster, one in a series by the Scottish artist Donald Blake, was part of that effort. It was printed not only in French but Dutch, Spanish, Greek and Arabic. (http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/36693, accessed January 9, 2015). This poster bears a striking resemblance to a German poster from World War I mapping the sinking of Allied shipping in the same area (see ID #1202 "Englands Not"). A similar poster shows the tons of Axis shipping sunk in the Mediterranean, also in five languages. (http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/36698, accessed January 9, 2015.)
For another Blake poster in the same series, see ID #1315 "La Grande-Bretagne - Fer de Lance de L'Attaque".
This copy is stamped on the verso: "Printed in England" and "24 Je '43".
