- Description:
- A map of Ithaca, New York and Cornell University. Roads and footpaths are depicted as parallel lines and vary widths in accordance with real-world measurements. Streets are labeled with capitalized letters either on the inside or directly outside their parallel lines. Dotted lines are aligned with every 25-foot change in elevation, illustrating topography and a steep slope leading down from the campus in the east to the flatter area of town in the west. Cascadilla Creek and Fall Creek and their gorges frame the southern and northern extent of the university campus on the eastern side of the map, illustrated by hashmarks pointing towards the bottom of the gorge. Six Mile Creek is traced from east to west across the southern edge of the map, turning north at the western extent. All three rivers meet in the northwest corner of the map. The rivers and other small water features are illustrated by concentric lines within their boundaries. The shaded footprint of 34 buildings in the town of Ithaca are numbered according to a key at the bottom of the map. An additional 69 buildings are drawn and numbered in the campus area on the east side of the map. A sticker added to the bottom left corner of the map indicates conservation treatment of the map in 1989.
