Cornell University Buildings - Measurement:
- unknown:100 (scale)
- Description:
- A map of Cornell Campus buildings and roads in the year 1914. Roads and footpaths are depicted as parallel lines and vary widths in accordance with real-world measurements. Streets are labeled with capitalized letters either on the inside or directly outside their parallel lines. An electric railway, indicated as a solid line, crosses Cascadilla Creek at the southern edge of campus and follows East Avenue north before crossing Fall Creek on the Northern edge, following Thurston Avenue. Cascadilla Creek and Fall Creek and their gorges are illustrated at the southern and northern areas of the map, respectively, illustrated by hashmarks pointing towards the bottom of the gorge. The rivers and other small water features are illustrated by concentric lines within their boundaries. The footprints of 72 university buildings, shaded in black, are drawn on the map. An additional 3 proposed structures relating to sports facilities are depicted with a shading of diagonal lines. University buildings are labelled with capitalized letters in the spaces directly outside the shaded footprints. A concentric set of circles spread out across the map, with the library of central campus at the center. Annotations on the circles mark “one quarter mile from the library,” “half mile,” “three quarters mile,” and “seven eighths mile.” The extent of map stretches from Thurston Avenue in the north to Dryden Road in the south, and Stewart Avenue in the west to an unnamed road on the far eastern side of campus, near a grouping of university barns.
