- Description:
- A map showing Cornell University and proposed plans for expansion in the year 1925. The map is oriented with East at the top of the page. Roads and footpaths are depicted as parallel lines and vary widths in accordance with real-world measurements. Streets are labeled with capitalized letters either on the inside or directly outside their parallel lines. Cascadilla Creek and Fall Creek and their gorges frame the southern and northern extent of the current university campus, illustrated by hashmarks pointing towards the bottom of the gorge and notes reading "gorge reservation." The rivers and other small water features are illustrated by concentric lines within their boundaries. The footprints of 54 university buildings, shaded in black, are drawn on the map. An additional 60 proposed structures and expansions of existing buildings are outlined on the map, shaded with dots, including potential residence halls north of Beebe Lake. University buildings are labelled with capitalized letters in the spaces directly outside the shaded footprints. Other areas, such as outdoor educational area, are bounded by dashed lines. The “Service Department” to the southeast of campus consists of an additional 20 buildings. Private property surrounding the campus is shaded with densely packed dots. A small legend in the bottom left corner of the map notes the shading key for buildings, adding “The University shows white, Private Property gray, Where Building Plans uncertain, Lot lines indicate building limits.”
