Cornell University Buildings - Description:
- A map showing the campus of Cornell University and visitor information in the year 1997. Roads and footpaths are depicted as parallel lines and vary widths in accordance with real-world measurements. Streets are labeled with capitalized letters either on the inside or directly outside their parallel lines. Cascadilla Creek and Fall Creek are traced on the southern and northern edges of central campus, respectively. Beebe Lake is similarly depicted to the northeast of the central campus. The creeks and other water features are shaded a light blue. The footprints of dozens of university buildings are outlined and labelled with their name and cluster primarily in the western portion of the map. The footprints of dozens of fraternity houses and other residences are illustrated in the western and northern areas of campus and are labelled with their occupying fraternities. The Village of Forest Home in the northeast corner of the map is labelled but no buildings are illustrated. A cluster of university buildings relating to agriculture are grouped on the far eastern side of campus, separated from the main cluster of central campus by a long “Alumni Field” and the “Robert J. Kane Sports Complex.” Visitor parking is indicated throughout the map with red shading. A key provides this information in the top right corner of the map and also includes explanations of the red meter icons indicating metered parking, blue dots indicate blue light telephones, and a blue star indicating the location of Cornell Police throughout the map. The extent of the map stretches past Jessup Road in the north to beyond Dryden Road and Maple Avenue in the south, and University Avenue in the west to Caldwell Road on the far eastern side of campus. On the left side of the map, text provides visitors information on parking, tours, admissions, and the Information and Referral Center in Day Hall.
