- Hele Shaw pump is an electro-hyraulic pump used on ships. Hele-Shaw was a fluid scientist and a class of fluid flow profiles are named after him. The photo has a sign -Hele-Shaw Variable Stroke Pump. These are used in electrical-hydraulic pumps, often in marine engineering to power the steering mechanism or rudder. This photo may show an experiment to measure the performance of a hydraulic pump controlled by electric motors. Other labels say emergency hand gear drive shaft, electric synchornous receiver unit, electric motor, bedplate replenishing tank, replenishing vale, relieve valves, change over time.
