Perpetual motion - Description:
- The device shown is a water pump and a perpetual motion machine. There is a square basin of water on the ground and another square basin overhead, extending toward the viewer from a wall. The two basins are connected by a long straight shaft with a tube spiraling along its length. One end of the tube is immersed in the lower basin. The upper end of the tube opens above the upper basin and water pours from the tube into the upper basin. The connecting shaft has a steep incline; it is not perpendicular to the ground. Around the middle of the shift, there is also a circular disc, with little compartments along the outer circumference that each contain a loose ball. The caption suggests the oscillation of the balls somehow drives the movement of the disc, which in turn rotates the shaft, causing water to be transported upward through the tube. There is a decorative water fountain in the background.
