- Description:
- Scene from a woodworker's shop. Man stands turning wood with a pole lathe (aka springpole lathe). His tools are laid out on the bench and hanging on the wall behind him. The woodworker has one foot pressing on a treadle, which pulls on a cord wrapped around the work to be turned. The other end of the cord is attached overhead to a flexible wood pole, which moves up and down with the motion of the cord. The other end of the pole is presumable fixed in place outside of the frame. On another shelf next to the wood turner, there are several lidded boxes of different shapes. There is a small spinning wheel in the foreground.
