- Description:
- Marc Chagall Correspondence. Handwritten Yiddish autographed letter from Marc Chagall August 21, 1947 to JPFO head, Rubin Saltzman who replies on August 26, 1947 in a typed letter. Saltzman discusses the production of Di Ershte Bagengish (My First Encounter), Bella Chagall's second Yiddish book with the JPFO's press. Saltzman is appreciative of the beautiful illustrations and wants to distribute the book also in France, Poland and the Soviet Union. The brief pencil cover sheet "Issues" in English mentions Marc Chagall regarding the book. Bella Chagall died in the U.S. in 1944 where they arrived due to World War II and her widower wants her Yiddish work published as does Saltzman.
